From that point in 1963 until David Webb's death in December 1975, Andrew worked at the boutique on 57th Street where as one of the head salesmen he had a front-row seat to the clients and the commissions. Most importantly, he grew close to David Webb. Looking back on those years, Andrew said, "David was a wonderful teacher. He taught me everything I know. He used to say to me, 'Mr. IBM—you remember everything.'" That "everything" included working with gold, with Mabé pearls, with cabochon stones, enamel, and above all, working with scale. As he recalled of Webb, "He always gave you something worth looking at." By the time Andrew Clunn Ltd opened in 1980, the student was now master of his own designs. The Webb influence abounds in the Clunn pieces: the big stones, the hammered gold, the sense that this was jewelry not simply to wear but to be seen wearing. Here, too, there is the overall look of the period celebrating bold jewelry—it shows up in pieces by Henry Dunay, Seaman Schepps, even Tiffany at that time. David Webb lifted American jewelry, and Andrew Clunn happily carried on that message.

Condition: Used (Very Good)

Weight: 63.4 grams

Inside Circumference: Approx 16cm

Inside Diameter: 54mm x 44mm

Width: 24.5mm - 13.5mm

Tested As: 18ct Gold

Marked: A Clunn 18k

Box: Plain Gift Box
