Tanzanite can only be found in one part of the world- Tanzania. It has become increasingly popular since its relatively recent discovery in 1967. The blue colour can range from pale blue to more of an ultramarine shade.
It can often appear to display different colours when viewed from different angles. Tanzanite can also have more unpleasant brown tones in so it has to be cut correctly to highlight the blue tones. Today the tanzanite can be treated with heat to make sure the brown tones aren’t visible!
Tanzanite is rare and is only found in a few square miles of land close to Mount Kilimanjaro. It was identified to be a vibrant blue variety of zoisite that had been around since the early 19th century.
When tanzanite was discovered, Tiffany & Co. recognized the potential of it and became its main distributor. They gave the stone the name “tanzanite” to highlight its exclusive geographic origin. They introduced it to their collection in 1968.
Here at the vintage jeweller, we hold a few tanzanite pieces that would make fantastic gifts for December birthdays, Christmas or any time of the year!
Firstly you could get your hands on a piece by the original distributors, Tiffany & Co. We have a beautiful tanzanite and diamond soleste ring. This ring would make a very special gift for the one you love or as the perfect show-stopping engagement ring.
A perfect gift for someone with a December birthday could be our tanzanite and diamond cluster ring. The great thing about tanzanite is that due to it looking like it changes colour depending on the lighting and the angle, you can wear it all year round.
Tanzanite rings will look fantastically radiant in the summer months just as they will look beautiful in the duller winter weather.
They also look great with any outfit adding a touch of colour and class to any look- casual or evening.
We hope this has given you some insight into December birthday gifts and also enhanced your history on such a beautiful stone.
